  2. 2)  Current role:I have three roles. Aboriginal Health Project officer, Tackling Indigenous smoking officer Aboriginal clinical placement co-ordinator for Ten Trainee Aboriginal health practitioners.Awabakal medical service Newcastle NSW.
  3. 3)  How long have you been a nurse/midwife? Seventeen years
  4. 4)  Why did you want to you want to become a nurse/midwife?I wanted to care for our people and to make a difference.
  5. 5)  What were the enablers and barriers for you to complete your degree?Family encouraged and inspired me but the maths side of nursing nearly broke me.
  6. 6)  What was your Pathway into nursing/midwifery – how did you get to where you are today?My pathway began as an Aboriginal Liaison officer at the local health service where I was born. I got where I am with a lot of hard work, dedication, commitments, sacrifices and a passion to right wrongs for my people.
  7. 7)  Do you believe our nurses and midwives are role models for our communities, if yes do you think it is a priority that we increase our workforce and why?
    Yes I do believe we are great role models for our community as we are standing and working in the very institutions that turned our mothers away with our babies and told us we were not welcome because of the colour of our skin.It is definitely a priority to increase the workforce to accommodate the ever growing changes of our communities and the way our mobs are treated in the health setting and at home. Bring the healers in and let them practice culturally safe in the clinical settings, more ALO’s are also needed to advocate on behalf of clients in hospitals that have a larger population of Aboriginal inpatients.
